Composition 6 - Framing

It doesn't matter what sort of camera you use, but following a few simple guidelines can generally improve your photos. In this tip we will talk about "Framing".

Framing utilises elements within your scene to create a focal point within your image.

For example, through a window, a doorway, pulled back curtains, branches of a tree, fences and gateways, bridges and tunnels, or arches, etc.

The options are only limited by your imagination and the surroundings.

Adding a focal point through framing shows a viewer exactly where to look.

In many situations the frame may be partially or completely out of focus - the important point is to ensure your subject is in focus, and your camera is not being fooled by the frame.

If you would like to see some examples, type "framing an image photography" into Google Search and click on Images or simply click here. This provides a much wider range of images than we could show here.
