Editing 2 - Cropping, Aspect Ratios, Flipping and Rotation
Unless you are using a high-end camera with a selection of interchangeable lenses, whenever you take a photo it will probably be a compromise.
As long as the focus is correct, and the exposure is acceptable, the photo can generally be improved by editing, and this includes cropping.
|
There are numerous reasons why you might want to crop a photo, change the aspect ratio, or reposition the subject within the photo:
- Remove unwanted content and focus on the subject.
- Improve composition – Rule of Thirds helps here.
- Add impact by using different aspect ratios.
- Use a different shape entirely, such as a circle, oval or triangle, etc.
- Cropping for emotion to accentuate a scene or situation.
- Cropping for a story, often to provide context.
- Flip or rotate the subject to give a different perspective.
Take care not to accidentally overwrite your original photo when you save your changes.
